IEEE Bangalore Section elections

Section members will get a ballot from IEEE by email. Please choose Dr. Y V S Lakshmi for Chair-Elect.

Dr. Y V S Lakshmi (Yamujala Venkata Sathya Lakshmi) is a Consultant at the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the telecom R&D centre of the Ministry of Communications, Government of India. She works on intellectual property rights in ICT and semiconductors, and handles IPR front-ending for C-DOT's collaborative research programme (CCRP).

She joined C-DOT in 1996 after three years as an engineer at ITI Ltd. At C-DOT she has led IPR, technology marketing, knowledge management and training, as Head of Marketing (Bangalore) and Manager IPR, Group Leader for IPR and Knowledge Management, and Head of C-BUDDHI, C-DOT's training division for external participants. She has contributed to a 5G IP pooling report, served on TSDSI's IPR policy working group and represents C-DOT on a BIS committee on reliability.

She did her M.Sc. (Engg) and Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, working on MOS structures on polysilicon and on superconducting films. That research led to a patent on a current-controlled variable resistor based on superconductors. She later took a post-graduate diploma in patent laws at NLSIU and a certification in intellectual property from WIPO. She has published or presented more than 100 papers and guides postgraduate and Ph.D. students at IISc, the IITs and the NITs.

Her IEEE service in Bangalore goes back to 2009. She has chaired IEEE WIE Bangalore twice (2010, 2015), served as Section Treasurer (2017), chaired IEEE TEMS Bangalore (2020) and was Vice Chair for WIE on the IEEE India Council (2020). She joined the Section's Executive Committee in 2024 and advises IEEE WIE Bangalore. She received the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Award (2011), the REVA Engineering Excellence Award (2018) and the IETE Women Achiever Award (2022).

Her plan for the Section

  • Bring more members onto organising committees.
  • Hold open debates on topics members ask about: AI in education, life after B.Tech, cracking GATE, placements, R&D and standards in organisations, and a bigger role for Bangalore in global IEEE.
  • Align Section programmes with the priorities of IEEE and the IEEE India Council.
  • Build team spirit among the Section's volunteers.
